RULES AND REGULATIONS

 
1. Event Date and Venue
1.1 The event is held annually at a location decided upon by the Board of the Fork Lift Truck Association.
1.2 The Fork Lift Truck Association reserves the right to bar an individual or company from the event.
1.3 The event is organised on behalf of the Fork Lift Truck Association by the Events Committee, which comprises:
Chairman
Vice Chairman
Chief Executive
Representative of the John Knowles Company
and possibly one other (Board member or member of the Fork Lift Truck Association)
1.4 The event is normally held on a Saturday evening, early in February, but can be moved at the discretion of the Board.
1.5 The event, Awards, Archies and all the related materials are the exclusive property of the Fork Lift Truck Association. Any illegal use of associated logos, marques, etc. will lead to censure by, and possible ejection from, the Fork Lift Truck Association.
1.6 The winners are announced on the night of the Awards. Nothing implied or suggested by the Fork Lift Truck Association and/or its agents prior to the event may be taken as any indication of a company or individual winning an Award.
2. Categories
2.1 The Fork Lift Truck Association reserves the right to add, change or remove any Award category, as it deems necessary (decided by the Board).
2.2 The Board reserves the right not to present an Award as it sees fit.
2.3 No company may win any more than one product category in the same year.
2.4 In the event that a company receives most votes in more than one category, they will be given an Award for that category in which they have the greatest lead over the runner up. In other categories (where they would otherwise have won), the runner up will be deemed the winner.
3. Apprentice of the Year Award
3.1 This Award is presented to the highest achieving third year student at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College. Three nominations are to be provided by the Course Tutor to the Technical Committee, who will select the eventual winner. The winner's employer will be advised by a delegate member of the Technical Committee.
3.2 The successful candidate will be awarded a framed certificate and a cheque for £500.00 (amount to be reviewed each year).
4. Services to The Fork Lift Truck Industry
4.1 The successful candidate is deemed to have devoted their career to the materials handling industry, demonstrating exceptional service and dedication.
4.2 The Award is nominated by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine. The winner is chosen by the Board of the Fork Lift Truck Association.
5. Services to the Fork Lift Truck Association
5.1 This Award is bestowed at the discretion of the Fork Lift Truck Association and recognises an extraordinary contribution to the Association.
6. Design Achievement
6.1 The Award is nominated by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine. The winner is chosen by the Board of the Fork Lift Truck Association.
6.2 The Award is presented to an individual or team making a significant contribution to the design of fork lift trucks. This could be for a single item or component, a complete truck or a concept. It could relate to a specific design or to a portfolio of work spread over a number of years.
6.3 The winning individual or team of this category is presented with an Archie.
7. Supplier of the Year
7.1 Suppliers or their customers are invited to make nominations for this category, which is then voted upon by Fork Lift Truck Association members.
7.2 The Events Committee will look for certain criteria when compiling the shortlist from the nominations. These will include: attaining relevant quality standards, involvement with the industry, commitment to training, compliance with Code of Practice, recent improvement in working practice, environmental policy and evidence of building strong strategic partnerships with their customers.
7.3 The winner of the category is presented with an Archie and is allowed to use the appropriate winner’s logo within the parameters established by the Fork Lift Truck Association.
8. Safety
8.1 The Award is nominated, and voted for, by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine.
8.2 To be eligible, the nominated product, service or initiative must have been launched during the calendar year of the nomination.
8.3 The Fork Lift Truck Association may seek the service of independent consultants to verify the quality and originality of the nominated product, service or initiative.
8.4 The winner of the category is presented with an Archie and is allowed to use the appropriate winner’s logo within the parameters established by the Fork Lift Truck Association.
9. Environment
9.1 The Award is nominated, and voted for, by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine.
9.2 To be eligible, the nominated product, service or initiative must have been launched during the calendar year of the nomination.
9.3 The Fork Lift Truck Association may seek the service of independent consultants to verify the quality and originality of the nominated product, service or initiative.
9.4 The winner of the category is presented with an Archie and is allowed to use the appropriate winner’s logo within the parameters established by the Fork Lift Truck Association.
10. Ergonomics
10.1 The Award is nominated, and voted for, by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine.
10.2 To be eligible, the nominated product, service or initiative must have been launched during the calendar year of the nomination.
10.3 The Fork Lift Truck Association may seek the service of independent consultants to verify the quality and originality of the nominated product, service or initiative.
10.4 The winner of the category is presented with an Archie and is allowed to use the appropriate winner’s logo within the parameters established by the Fork Lift Truck Association.
11. Innovation
11.1 The Award is nominated, and voted for, by the readers of Storage Handling Distribution magazine.
11.2 To be eligible, the nominated product, service or initiative must have been launched during the calendar year of the nomination.
11.3 The Fork Lift Truck Association may seek the service of independent consultants to verify the quality and originality of the nominated product, service or initiative.
11.4 The winner of the category is presented with an Archie and is allowed to use the appropriate winner’s logo within the parameters established by the Fork Lift Truck Association.
12. Life Time Achievement
12.1 This Award is the highest individual honour bestowed by the Fork Lift Truck Association. Candidates are nominated by readers of Storage Handling Distribution Magazine. The winner is chosen by a full Board meeting of the Fork Lift Truck Association.
12.2 The winner of this Award is entitled to make a short acceptance speech.
12.3 The Award is not sponsored (because it is presented so infrequently) and is presented by the Chairman of the Fork Lift Truck Association.
13. Nominations
13.1 The deadline for nominations shall be 30th September. The Awards will be presented the following February/March. Products, services or initiatives launched after the closing date for nominations, but prior to 31st December, may be eligible for entry the following calendar year. Full nomination requirements are available from the Chief Executive of the Fork Lift Truck Association
14. Entries
14.1 All entries should be of the required length. Wherever possible, they should be accompanied by high quality photographs of the product, service or initiative in action.
14.2 If no appropriate origination material is obtained then short-listed companies must be willing to make the product, service or initiative available to be photographed or filmed by representatives from the Fork Lift Truck Association.
14.3 The short list of the Awards will be announced no later than 15th October for presentation the following year.
14.4 The Fork Lift Truck Association accepts no responsibility for materials or entries (photographs, video footage etc.) submitted to it.
14.5 All entries will be scrutinised by the Fork Lift Truck Association Technical Committee, who may seek the opinion of independent consultants before accepting an entry.
15. Voting
15.1 The deadline for receipt of votes shall be one week prior to the Awards..
15.2 Voting is only eligible on official Fork Lift Truck Association voting cards, issued by the Fork Lift Truck Association and/or its agents. No other form of vote (eg fax, letter, photocopies etc) will be accepted.
15.3 Cards will be inserted into agreed issues of appropriate magazines. In addition, each member depot will receive one voting card (supplied to each member’s head office).
15.4 Any attempt to distort or artificially influence the voting may lead to the product and company being eliminated from the Awards for a period of time decided by the Fork Lift Truck Association Board.
15.5 The voting of all Awards (except those voted for by the Board of the Fork Lift Truck Association) is by secret ballot and is only open to scrutiny in exceptional circumstances.
15.6 The results of the voting and the eventual winners are known only to the Chief Executive, the Chairman and members of the Events Committee (as necessary) until they are announced publicly.
