Nominees:

Cascade Corporation

Hydraulic Force Control paper clamps

HFCTM (Hydraulic Force Control) automatically controls the clamping force on Cascade Corporation’s paper roll clamps to minimise damage during product handling. Waste due to damage has a £18.3 million impact on the environment as scrapping or returning damaged products consumes both energy and resources. HFCTM attachments work with existing lift truck power – without the need for additional consumption – boosting productivity and minimising a truck’s carbon footprint. Excess fuel is not consumed from unnecessary throttling during clamping and it is less demanding on the driver as the system automatically applies the correct clamp force necessary using the lowest amount of power.

Cooper Specialised Handling

Koneskrane Reachstacker with special attachment

Cooper SH supplied a Konecranes reachstacker specially designed for the safe handling of Intermediate Level Nuclear Waste into a store in Snowdonia National Park. The machine is capable of safely interfacing and lifting concrete overpacks weighing up to 42 tonnes in which the waste is stored. Challenges facing the Cooper SH team involved meeting the stringent UK nuclear industry safety standards and slowing all travel and hydraulic speeds to an absolute crawl. A pure vertical lift and lower (eliminating the natural arc) was also paramount for safe entry and exit of the special elongated twistlocks into and out of the overpack.

Enersys Motive Power

Powertech IQ chargers

The range of smart HF chargers from Enersys combines all of the existing features of HF technology with innovative new ones that provide optimum flexibility of use. Powertech IQ, the next generation of Hawker high frequency chargers, has been developed to provide the user with lower electricity costs through improved efficiency and lower charging factor to help reduce the carbon footprint. To take advantage of off-peak electricity tariffs, a real-time clock lets users program the charge needed. Other features include: wireless charger/battery communication; USB and Ethernet ports; colour-changing display panel clearly indicating state of charge; arc-less connection/disconnection and customisable menu.

Thermote & Vanhalst (TVH)

SmartSweep

The SmartSweep, from Thermote & Vanhalst, is a mechanical sweeper which does not rely on an engine, hydraulics or electric drives to operate. Instead, the system’s three brushes are driven by v-belts connected to its drive shaft. Its simple design means that the SmartSweep can be quickly fitted to all types of lift trucks: in most cases taking less than a minute. A built-in dust filter ensures cleaning is virtually dust-free, while the vacuum within collects dust and dirt quickly and easily. The machine, which has a rubbish volume of 255 litres, has been developed to sweep in tight angles.
