Nominees:

Abex

MAP3 Access Platform

The MAP3 is a safer, simpler, more cost effective solution to high-level work such as bus and coach window and bodywork repair and maintenance. The truck is controlled from the platform, is easy to manoeuvre. Able to carry up to three personnel and a typical bus or coach windscreen, the MAP3 reduces the manual handling required by other access platform equipment.

The simple and effective design allows the platform to be quickly adjusted to specific bus and coach profiles, ensuring a neat and tight fit. Other safety features include a locking system, which immobilises the unit when the front gates are moved out of the way for working and extending sidebars for a safe, secure operator environment.

Jungheinrich UK Ltd

Jungheinrich Personnel Protection System

Jungheinrich’s Personnel Protection System (PPS) has been designed to improve safety in warehousing environments where the simultaneous presence of trucks and personnel is prohibited or must be strictly controlled. PPS can be configured with different parameters to control operation. The system is self-activated: placing no additional operation demands on drivers. PPS’ integrated laser scanners can detect personnel or other obstructions in the working environment. If PPS detects obstacles or personnel in its path, it will automatically slow down the truck and, if necessary, bring it to a controlled stop before a collision occurs – thereby ensuring the highest levels of safety.

Linde Material Handling (UK) Ltd

Series 1152 Electric pedestrian pallet truck

As well as being more compact, Linde’s new pedestrian pallet trucks introduce a number of innovative safety features such as end-of-stroke resistance on the tiller. This increases tiller resistance as it approaches the braking zone providing positive feedback to the operator: avoiding him accidentally catching the brake and potentially wrenching his shoulder and upper arm. These models also have a proportional speed control system. As the operator gets closer to the truck’s chassis, so the closer to the vertical he naturally holds the tiller. Traction speed is automatically reduced as the tiller angle increases to enhance his safety.

Nexen Forktrucks Ltd

Anti-rollback system

Nexen have spared no expense in this area of research and development: operator comfort and safety have taken the highest priority in the development of the new X range. The Nexen anti-rollback system, available with Optima Plus, enables a driver to hold a truck’s position on most gradients. While this is a common feature when using hydrostatic drives, Nexen have designed this safety system to work with a torque converter transmission. In addition, all Nexen models are fitted with Driver Present Switches (DPS) as standard. Incorporated into the seat, this stops all movement instantly should a driver leave the vehicle.

Transmon Engineering Ltd

Zone Speed Savure System

Transmon has created the Zone Speed Savure, to help a site adhere to safety regulations without compromising productivity where a speed limit is not required. It addresses two key focuses: maintaining safety standards onsite and boosting efficiency.

When a truck enters a restricted zone, its speed is limited using a switch/release button or separate latching key switch by a supervisor. This is particularly useful within pedestrianised areas, long travel distances or specialist applications requiring minimal activity around high risk products.

It also reduces the supervision required, allowing both Managers and Operators to focus on other important elements of the operation.
