Dealers need to demonstrate that they have run a fleet of fork lift trucks for a minimum of two years and have conducted their business in a professional and ethical manner. They must employ a minimum of 3 engineers. Company turnover in materials handling should be a least £500,000, with a minimum balance sheet total of £35,000. Trucks must be serviced on a regular basis and Thorough Examinations conducted at appropriate statutory intervals. The company must have at least £5,000,000 of public liability insurance. Hire contracts must be acceptable to the Association. Companies in this category will be formally assessed.

(Dealers unable to meet these criteria should not be deterred. They should read the sections on Provisional and Associate Membership.)

Training organisations and service/maintenance companies will be expected to comply with as much of the above as is practical, but modified in line with the conduct of their business. Companies in this category will be formally assessed.

Prospective members in other categories must demonstrate that they have been in an appropriate business for a minimum of two years and that such business is conducted in a professional and ethical manner. There is not normally any formal assessment.
