How it Works

Once online and logged in, the operator works through two separate modules of questions and scenarios, at his or her own pace:

Operator Profile. This assesses the operator and considers the truck they operate and the tasks they undertake.
Defensive Operating. This module covers operators' attitude, behaviour, knowledge and hazard perception.

The operator receives detailed feedback on each of the questions he or she has answered and is provided with advice and guidance. This is detailed feedback and in some cases it may be sufficient to ensure that a simple error or misunderstanding is rectified. The operator can also download a certificate of completion.

More importantly each Operator Area, known as Operator HQ, is backed up by a Management Information System (MIS). This allows the manager to monitor all of his or her operators on the system. Here, each operator will be given a risk rating against Attitude, Knowledge, Behaviour and Hazard Perception. These rankings may then be used to assess what action may be appropriate. For example:

Low Risk may indicate that no further action is required at this time.
Medium Risk may indicate that some form of classroom training is required.
High Risk may indicate that formal refresher training is needed.

The rankings allow training requirements to be prioritised and help avoid unnecessary expenditure or use of resources.

The MIS will clearly identify the most vulnerable operators; but it goes further than this. The areas of greatest risk can be identified and then, by analysing specific questions the requirement for refresher training can be focussed on the areas where it is most needed and will potentially deliver the greatest benefit to both the operator and his/her employer.
